The seed for the establishment of the Bible Baptist Church began in the 1970's, when several individuals from Crookston started attending Bible Baptist Church in East Grand Forks. These families prayed, asking the Lord to help them start a church in Crookston.
With the leadership of the Holy Spirit, financial support, prayers, and blessings of their home church in East Grand Forks, Bible Baptist Church of Crookston held its first service on Monday night, May 31st, 1976, with Evangelist Larry Clayton preaching. The meeting lasted for one week, during which time souls were saved and numerous visitors came to the services.
The founding pastor of the church was Pastor Clayton E. Doss, who faithfully led and pastored the congregation of Bible Baptist Church for nearly 43 years, from 1976 - 2019.
Pastor Doss came to Christ and was called to preach while serving the US Air Force, stationed in Grand Forks, ND. After finishing his training at Baptist Bible College (Springfield, MO), Pastor Doss served as an Assistant Pastor at Bible Baptist Church of East Grand Forks, MN, until he was called to plant the Bible Baptist Church of Crookston.
On the church's third anniversary, on May 27, 1979, we broke ground on a new building located one mile east of Crookston. Over the years the church has added on twice to the original building in order to accommodate the growth of the congregation. The latest building project added a new larger sanctuary, and converted the previous one into a beautiful dining hall.
Following the announcement of Pastor Doss' retirement, the church followed his recommendation and voted to call Pastor Preston Hoiseth to be the next pastor of the church, as of March, 2019.
Pastor Hoiseth grew up here at Bible Baptist Church, which is also where he was saved and called to preach. He attended Heartland Baptist Bible College (Oklahoma City, OK), where he met his wife Karen. His first ministry was as Associate Pastor of Faith Baptist Church in Wesley Chapel, FL, where the Hoiseth's served for nearly 5 years.
In 2012, the Lord led Pastor Hoiseth to start the Northwoods Baptist Church in Bemidji, MN, where he served until the family moved back to Crookston at the beginning of 2019.
